in 2012? susan is in baltimore. hi susan. caller: hello. no i'm not going to stick with president obama this time. i feel that he's creating such a divisive atmosphere in our country and a very -- i'm very concerned for that, being the person who we want in our leadership. i feel like he has not shown us any substantive plans in the four years that he's been in business as the president, and instead, it seems like he wants to be rehraeblgt dollars, he picks -- reelected, he picks hot button issues such as will and illegal aliens, and he just starts divisiveness and causes peoples' emotions, the people who fall in those categories, i'm one of those people, and i have children and they are in one of those categories, and he doesn't have a plan, he puts it temporarily together and touts that as plan, but it's not, so that he can get reelected. again, if he was doing a good reelection campaign and maybe used things like that but also had demonstrated over the last almost four years some good, strong substantive plans that brought the economy to our country and brought the people together, w
, that was thrilling. my father had been mayor of baltimore. one of the leaders of the kennedy campaign in maryland. the first night we got there, it was the dinner for him. we all saw the president, the family very differently. after he made his speech at the stadium, which was stark, no one ever did that, fabulous seats. my father want to go to a famous restaurant in los angeles. we did. my father said this is really an expensive restaurant, how did you choose the restaurant. compared to baltimore, it was very expensive. i remember him not complaining, but making the point when the door opened and here comes senator kennedy. he came right over, what did you think of the speech? ask me what i thought. all of a sudden the prices came way down. >> suddenly it was not worth it. take a one of the most memorable single images of this convention ran on the front of "the new york time" was you with the women members of the house. but was a like to stand up there? >> it was pretty exciting. that was only half of those we have in the house. it was pretty exciting because of the connection. it was so exciti
issues. ed is an independent in baltimore. caller: good morning and thank you for c-span. the first action of the violence was an organized protest stemming most likely from 9/11. we found a video made over a year ago to put the blame on it. it is a reactionary congress here in the u.s. that all of a sudden wants to do something about it or reactionary administration. these were planned protests, not grass roots outbreaks of violence. we have blamed it on a year-old video. eventually we will lose some rights because of its. host: the occupy wall street movement is one year old today. this is the question put forth by "usa today" -- arkansas, john, a republican. caller: good morning. this particular question raises another interesting question. who is this u.s. government that will control free speech? is it the same u.s. government that allows illegals to access our education, medication, housing, employment sectors? is it the same u.s. government that limits the futures of 1 million aborted babies each year although 50% of the people are against it? the same government that forces
in the papers this morning. here's the baltimore sun -- this i romney was in california and spoke before a hispanic group there and then the video came out. he had a press conference last night around 10:00 p.m. eastern to respond to the video. [video clip] >> it is not elegantly stated. i am speaking off the cuff in response to a question. i'm sure i could of stated it more clearly and in a more effective way than i did in a setting like that. i'm sure i will point that out as time goes on. we don't even have the question in that snippet nor the full response. the person who has the video, i wish they would put out the full material. but it is a message i will carry and continue to carry, which is the president's approach is attractive to people who are not paying taxes, because my discussion about lowering taxes is not attractive to them, therefore i am not likely to draw them into my campaign as effectively as those who are in the middle. this is really a discussion about the political process, of winning the election. i want to help all americans have a bright and prosperous future.
for calling. on twitter -- and here is the headline from the baltimore sun this morning -- we will continue to hear from you all morning on this issue from republicans. michael is from the jacksonville, florida. thanks for calling. caller: good morning. i'm calling about the romney comments. it is appalling that the media has blown this out of proportion. what mitt romney said is a fact. 47% of our country is at on entitlements. it does not bother me what he had to say. i agree with him. america needs to wake up. the people who don't comprehend will not understand what he's talked about. host: thanks for calling, michael. he talked about the media blowing this up too much. here is the opinion piece from the "washington times this morning i-- then it's on the opinion page of the washington times,. wes iscalifornia, waiting on the republican line. go ahead. caller: thanks for giving me the opportunity. i recently changed to the republican party. i am really disappointed in my view and in and my former party. the fair share of social justice is no share. when you have a man speaking the truth

baltimore sun" encapsulate the speeches yesterday. they pointed out that president barack obama made an impassioned defense of the expression of freedom worldwide. mitt romney urged other nations to emulate the free economy and suggested that the obama leadership in the middle east has been inadequate and reactive. this is a short piece to start us off from the president at united nations yesterday, talking about the middle east. [video clip] >> i believe that this message must be rejected by all those who respect our common humanity. i have made it clear that the united states had nothing to do with this video. it is an insult to muslims, and everyone. we are the home to muslims worship across our country. we not only respect the freedom of religion, we have laws that protect individuals from being harmed because of how they look or what they believe. we understand why people take offense to this video because millions of our citizens are among them. host: more headlines following these speeches, "obama talks tough on mideast extremism." [video clip] >> people at a high income level will have fewer deductions and exemptions. as numbers will come down, otherwise they would get a tax break. i want to make sure, despite what the democrats said at their convention, i am not reducing taxes on high-income taxpayers. i am bringing down the rate of taxation but also bringing down deductions and exemptions at the high end so the revenues stay the same. the taxes people pay states the same. middle-income people will get a break. on the high end, what's coming in and say it's the same -- what's coming in stays the same. but we encourage small businesses, because they hire people. host: that was mitt romney yesterday. we are asking you about your message to congress. fred on twitter -- chicago, matt on the democratic line. caller: the thing that you just showed on the newspaper when you first open the show, a house republican agenda for this week is to pass a bill to eliminate the clean energy loans and the sequestrati

to fund that gap. host: baltimore on the democratic line, jay. caller: jerry, actually. thank you, c-span, and i really love your show. it's nice to be built to voice our opinion. my question is about qe-3. where is he getting $40 billion a month to purchase mortgage backed securities? if he has the power to do that, we cannotderstand why do this for something that is actually going to be tangible, like roads and bridges. everybody says that, but our transportation infrastructure is no longer what it takes to get stuff done quickly. the hours that dispense stuck in traffic, idling with gas at $4 a gallon will not help the situation. can you speak to where this $40 will come from?h host: referring to the federal reserve. guest: gao is at an early printed it from looking at the federal reserve pose a monetary policy activity. such as quantitative easing. we don't have a position on that because we are not able to look at that. host: is there any organization oversight of the federal reserve's monetary policy, any independent agency doing reviews? guest: not that i'm aware of. have thet
. baltimore book fest. tomorrow, richmond, virginia, at noon. and then in the evening i'll speak in norfolk. then on monday night, we'll be at virginia tech, which is very interesting, going back to the scene of the massacre. i'll be speaking there, you know, 32 people were killed there. and colin goddard is coming with us. he was one of those victims. he was shot four times. i'm also looking forward to interviewing a professor there. and then we're on to colorado for the big debate. we're going to be doing something interesting. we're both speaking on the silent majority election 2012 tour, but also we do this daily, radio and television broadcast that airs on over 1,100 stations, so we have to do the broadcast wherever we are. and being on the scene has been remarkable. i'll give you one example. we, last week, were in freeport, illinois, and got a truck, and we went to the stevenson fairgrounds. it was right across the street from a plant which happened to be owned by bain capital. across the street, the workers, the employees of this plant who worked there like, oh, dot turner for 4 ye
me. host and that social media includes our phone calls. bruce, baltimore, good morning, independent line, thank you for waiting. caller: how you doing, good morning. i watched the democratic convention and you also speak about how obama captured bin laden and all the praise of how senator obama did such a great job during the war and so forth. i think the credit should go to george bush. george bush is the one that set up all these ways of catching bin laden, setting up going to war in iraq. but all the democrats, all they are like perform colmes, they want to give obama all the credit for all the polices george bush set. host: thank you bruce. allen colmes. guest: i think to some extent you're right. i think the end of the iraq war, for example, was already in play when obama took office and in fact president obama kept many of the bush national security people around him like robert gates, the secretary of defense, at the beginning of his administration. so to some extent, you've actually got a point. but in terms of bin laden, you know, there's a clip of george w. bush at one poi
